By submitting to this video contest, all participants agree to the following rules:
ELIGIBILITY
- Open to youth age 18 and under at the time of entry.
- Participants must be residents of Delta, Mesa, Montrose or Ouray counties.
- Each entry may be submitted by an individual or small group.
- All entrants must provide parental or guardian consent to participate.
- To compete for the Grand Prize, entrants may form teams. Teams should have no more than 20 individuals (For example, a club of 20 students could divide into 8 groups. Each group would submit 1 video, but compete as a team for the Grand Prize)
- Entrants, or teams, must submit 3 videos or more to be eligible for the Grand Prize.
- Each entrant or team may only submit 1 video per category
THEME AND CATEGORIES
Participants are invited to create short videos that educate and inspire others to “Do Colorado Right” by practicing responsible recreation. Each video should highlight one of the following seven categories, based on the Colorado-specific outdoor ethics:
- Know Before You Go
- Stick to Trails
- Trash the Trash
- Leave It As You Find It
- Be Careful with Fire
- Keep Wildlife Wild
- Share Our Trails and Parks
Each category will be judged separately, and a winner will be selected for each category. Participants may submit one video per category, with a maximum of eight submissions per participant or team.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Video length: 90 seconds or less
- Format: MP4 or MOV, minimum 720p resolution. Both Live-Action and Animation are allowed.
- Language: Both English and Spanish may be used.
- Originality: All videos must be original student work created specifically for this competition.
- Any music, images, or footage used must be royalty-free or properly licensed.
- Videos must promote safe, responsible, and respectful outdoor behavior and must not cause harm toward people, wildlife, or Colorado’s natural spaces.
- All videos must be filmed in Mesa, Montrose, Delta or Ouray counties
- No use of AI is permitted in any stage of aspect of film creation
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- Submit all entries through WooBox.
- Each submission must include:
- A video file
- A completed entry form indicating which Colorado Right category the video represents
- Parent/guardian consent
- Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
JUDGING CRITERIA
Each video category will be judged separately by a panel of Colorado outdoor professionals, filmmakers, and community leaders.
Videos will be scored on:
- Creativity and originality – 30%
- Clarity and accuracy of the “Do Colorado Right” message – 30%
- Impact and inspiration – 25%
- Technical quality – 15%
All judging decisions are final.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
A winner and a runner up will be selected for each of the eight categories. Winning videos will be featured on local media and social media channels, as well as featured at local movie theaters. Winning entrants will receive a certificate, recognition and a $100 gift certificate to a local outdoor business. Runner up will receive a certificate, recognition and $50 gift certificate to a local outdoor business. All videos that meet the contest rules will be featured on West Slope Outdoors Alliance’s YouTube channel and may be used for educational and outreach purposes by West Slope Outdoors Alliance.
In addition, one prize will be awarded for “People's Choice” to the video with the most upvotes on WooBox. This entrant will receive recognition, be featured at the local movie theater, and receive a $50 gift card.
The first five entries in Spanish and the first five entries in English that meet all contest rules will each receive a $25 gift card.
Entrants may compete as teams to be eligible for the Grand Prize. The Grand Prize is a FREE raft trip for up to 20 people provided by Colorado Canyon Association ($2500 VALUE).
Prizes are non-transferable and no cash alternatives will be offered.
RIGHTS AND PERMISSIONS
By submitting a video, participants and their guardians agree that:
- West Slope Outdoors Alliance is granted a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and share the video for educational, outreach, or promotional purposes related to responsible recreation and the “Do Colorado Right” campaign.
- Creators maintain full ownership and copyright of their work.
- All individuals appearing in the video have given permission to participate.
NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS
- Winners will be announced via West Slope Outdoors Alliance social media channels and through email.
- Winners may be required to provide proof of age and Colorado residency before prizes are awarded.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
- West Slope Outdoors Alliance reserves the right to disqualify any submission that violates contest rules, promotes unsafe behavior, or misrepresents responsible recreation principles.
- The organization is not responsible for technical failures, lost files, or submission issues.
- Submission of an entry constitutes full agreement with all contest rules.
