CONTEST OVERVIEW:
The theme of the 2017 High Art competition is “Psychedelia”. Categories have been expanded to include print, photography and video. Worldwide, all artists, professional or amateur are encouraged to enter. Natural Cannabis Company and High Art judges retain the right to reject submissions that do not fit the guidelines or the spirit of our competition.
SUBMISSIONS BEGIN: February 20, 2017, Midnight Pacific Standard Time
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: March 20, 2017, Midnight Pacific Standard Time.
Notice:
Upon entry, you will receive an email confirmation of your submission. Online exhibition of the Top 30 Finalists will be March 30th – April 15th, 2017.
All winners will be featured on Natural Cannabis Company social media, packaging and promotional materials as well as displayed at the High Art Gallery in Santa Rosa, CA and select art shows.
GENERAL RULES FOR ENTRY:
- The competition is international and open to everyone, both professional and amateur artists.
- Artists 18 years old and older may enter.
- No art previously shown in previous High Art competitions may be re-submitted.
- Each submission must include name of creator and title. (Name – Title.jpg.)
- Each entry must include a brief description of the image as well as a short artist bio.
- Natural Cannabis Company shall have the right to display and reproduce accepted work for promotional purposes, regardless of future ownership, in both printed and electronic form.
- Natural Cannabis Company has the sole right to refuse any submission that is deemed inappropriate.
- You may submit as many pieces as you wish while the competition is open.
- You MUST be able to provide a valid email address linked to a valid PAYPAL account in order to receive any prize money or compensation.
- All entries must be uploaded digitally via Woobox for Facebook.
RULES OF ENTRY | PRINT CATEGORY:
● The “Print” category
artwork created in a variety of mediums included but not limited to:
○ Paint (watercolor, oil, acrylic, gouache etc.)
○ Pen or Pencil (charcoal, lithography etc.)
○ Digital Design (Photoshop, Corel Draw, Sketchbook etc.)
○ Mixed Media (collage, creative materials etc.)
● Submission file names

● Print artists must submit a 1301 wide x 1733 tall .jpg (resolution of 72 DPI) digital file to enter.
● Print artists must submit a digital file (18” wide x 24” tall @ 150dpi .jpg) of their artwork if chosen as a finalist.
● .JPG compression quality of 12 (or the highest quality setting)

RULES OF ENTRY | PHOTOGRAPHY CATEGORY:
- The “Photography” category artwork created through the primary use of a camera.
- Photos may be edited with software as needed to reflect the artist’s vision.
- Submission file names MUST follow the format: LastName-Title.jpg
- Photos must reflect the overall theme of the competition (unedited photos of cannabis flowers or smoking accessories will not be accepted)
- Photography entries need to be at least 1280x960 pixels (wide images) or 960x1280 pixels (tall images)
- Photographers must submit a high-res digital file if chosen as a finalist.
- .JPG compression quality of 12 (or the highest quality setting)

RULES OF ENTRY | VIDEO CATEGORY:
● The “Video” category
video clips 60 SECONDS OR LESS of either live action or animated footage.
● Video entries must be 1280x720 (HD) or higher, no longer than a minute and hosted on either:
○ YouTube
○ Vimeo
○ Facebook
○ Instagram
○ Vine
● If you are selected as a finalist you will be required to provide a high definition (780p or above) copy of your entry.
● Videos containing copyrighted music or other content will be disqualified.

FILE NAME GUIDELINES:
- Print and Photo submission file names MUST follow the format: LastName-Title.jpg
- Please fill out the entire form and load your image before sending the upload. If the submitted images are not sized properly, the artist understands that High Art may have to resize and crop the images to conform to the format constraints.
- The file name may not include characters such as #, $, &, periods or other similar characters as part of the file!
- File names may not exceed 40 characters.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
When submitting your entries, we require that you provide a short bio (1,000 Word Limit). Tell us a little bit about yourself: your artistic training, your artistic inspiration, media choice, any special techniques used... anything that you might like the world to know about you. You may also include your website URL if you wish.
NOTE: All entrants will be judged on their entire submission packet, including the artist biography. Submissions accompanied by clear, complete bios will be rated higher than those with missing or incomplete information.
ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION:
Every submission that is correctly entered will receive an immediate email notification.
JUDGING:
Judging will be conducted by nationally recognized, professional artists and accomplished individuals in the professional and academic fields. The High Art competition gives artists the unique platform to express their vision of “Cannabis + Psychedelia + Surrealism = High Art 2017.” The competition will be judged for creative, thought-provoking, contemporary and historical significance as well as artistic and creative merit.
The artwork submitted to the competition will be judged based on the following elements of artistic expression:
- Interpretation and the clarity of the theme to the viewer.
- Creativity and originality in the depiction of the theme.
- Artistic composition and overall design in adherence to the theme.
- Overall impression of the art. What is the effect of the artwork in general and as a whole? Overall, does the artwork stand on its own as a complete and outstanding work of art?
AWARDS:
- 10 winning artists will be selected from each category.
- The winning pieces will be seen by an international audience. The winning entries will be featured on the High Art Online Art Gallery website for one year and then remain in the gallery’s archives.
- By having their work on the High Art website, winning artists will gain exposure, enhance their portfolio and increase traffic and links to their own websites or online portfolios.
- High Art will promote the winning artists via product packaging, posters, email, online press releases, online event promotions and social media marketing.
DISCLAIMERS:
- Each artist warrants that he or she has obtained all necessary releases from models and other subjects featured in the works of art and any additional releases required with respect to names, trademarks, designs or works of art depicted in the submitted work of art and that the creation, display or distribution of the work of art will not violate any law.
- Each artist warrants that he or she alone created the submitted work of art or if there are collaborators, they are named. Submissions of an entry to this competition imply acceptance of all above stated conditions.
- Entries must be original works of art and not copies, derivatives or based in anyway on other copyrighted or published works of art.
- We will accept appropriated images as long as the original creator is acknowledged and credited and your methodology is explained.
- Do not send images of your artwork, which have been framed or contain watermarks.
- High Art may color correct your images in order to enhance the overall presentation. High Art may crop your images for formatting purposes for use in packaging, promotional materials or other High Art presentations and for other areas of our website if your images are chosen.
- Artist agrees and understands that by submitting their artwork to High Art that they are opting into the the High Art Subscription email list and will receive future email announcements and notices from us. If you would like to be removed from this list, just click on the “unsubscribe” button at the bottom of the email and we will remove you immediately from all future emails from us.
