Video Submissions Accepted: August 12, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. CDT – October 4, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. CDT.

Is your community looking to highlight its hometown spirit and people that make it a great place to live along with unique community events and spaces that welcome visitors? 

If voters like what they see, your community will be entered to win a one-of-a-kind mural reflecting the uniqueness of your community! 

To recognize the importance of unity, community spirit and unique creative and cultural identity, the Iowans Create Community Mural Contest invites cities, municipalities or economic development organizations to submit videos showcasing their community spirit and authentic sense of place.  

ELIGIBLE ENTRANTS:

To be eligible, the entrant must be a City, county, or federal recognized tribal government, economic development or Nonprofit organization physically located in Iowa. 

CONTEST SUBMISSION:  

• Video submission must be included in entry form between August 12, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. CDT – October 4, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. CDT.  Click here to learn more about the file size and types allowed for the entry
• Only one video per entrant will be accepted. 
• Video must be no longer than one minute. 
• Video content must be appropriate for viewers of all ages.  
• The entrant may submit a video that was created or executed by an individual if the entrant has the individual’s express written permission.   

Required elements that must be shown in the video:  

• People in the community or organization 
• Hometown spirit 
• Unique creative and cultural identity of the community 
• Unique community assets, including local spaces, events and downtown districts 

VOTING

Following the online voting period (October 9, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. CDT – October 15, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. CDT.) two thresholds will be used to determine finalists.  

• Small communities, cities with a population of 15,000 or less, must have at least 500 votes.
• Large communities, cities with a population of 15,001 or more, must have at least 1,000 votes.

An independent panel of judges will review and score the official entry form and video. The contest winner will receive a custom mural designed and installed by an Iowa-based artist that welcomes visitors to the community!
