"the layout of the waiata whakapapa starts with a tauparapara which we commonly known as reciting the beginning of Tane, after a tauparapara generally a mihi follows which is the verses in the song, included in our mihi are our pepeha which gives a detailed description of we're we are from in our rohe and a reminder to our tamariki knowing there pepeha will keep them grounded to papatuanuku and form a understanding of taha maori, which we believe in now days society it is depleting amongst our rangatahi maori. We are promoting all four marae in our rohe which plays a huge part of our lives from cooking, dishies, korero, laughter, tears and tautoko creating core beliefs in hope that it creates forward thinking, postive vibrations and securing our tupuna values set before us not just as Ngati Tahu/Whaoa but for all maori. follow by a moteatea written by our nanny makere (decease) for te iwi of ngati Tahu/Whaoa. this moteatea speaks for itself but we have modernized it to suit the frequency of our rangatahi so they can grasp it and also that this is the only Ngati Tahu/Whaoa moteatea as far as we know, hope this inspires every ear it reaches to remember that the lives we live now is a taught behavior so return to your roots and learn your WHAKAPAPA and share with those who are in need of it. "This song was inspired first and foremost by the idea that together as a whanau we can achieve greatness or we are stronger as one. It also touches on the negative impacts of people not working together, and the confusion it creates. The overall theme however is “many hands make light work”. This phrase was inspired by whanau working together in the kitchen at our marae, but can represent many aspects of life. The song also represents a togetherness that our band possesses. We are all of tuwharetoa decent which is an awesome part of our roopu as a whole as a lot of us didn’t know each other even 6 months ago, and have lived very far away each other for most of our lives. WHEN YOU THROW DIRT, YOU LOSE GROUND entered by Trinity Thompson-Browne of Wellington [Te Upoko o Te Ika]; Lyrics & music by Trinity Thompson-Browne; Performed by Trinity Thompson-Browne; Filmed by Rawiri Tapiata & Trinity Thompson-Browne. "When I was in high school, the library had all these quotes in the entry way. One of those was, When You Throw Dirt, You Lose Ground; it always stuck with me. After I finished high school, I held onto it knowing that I was going to do something with that quote at some point. This performance (impromptu as it was) is from a wānanga at Hinerupe marae in Te Araroa, exploring the power of rangatahi expressions of personal narrative through a kaupapa called TUIA. When this clip came around, I'd written a song to that quote reflecting on my own experiences of bullying, and the rap of this song, though not featured in this clip, came from listening to everyone else's experiences of bullying. This song is for every person who's ever experienced bullying - it's an anthem to empower and uplift you when times are tough. And remember, deeds define their doer, not their receiver; you are enough. I've been waiting for over two years to produce this song properly and if this waiata gets chosen, the pūtea will go towards producing and mastering costs."

POTATAU TE WHEROWHERO entered by Matthew Rau of Hamilton [Radio Tainui]; Lyrics by Matthew Rau; Music by Te Amohaere Jefferies; Performed by Tika257 Class of 2014; Filmed by Hakopa Pore. "This song was inspired by our Waikato Univercity Tika257 class of 2014 kaupapa; the Kīngitanga, but specifically Pōtatau Te Wherowhero. The song speaks about a time where there was much sorrow, anguish, loss of land and death among Māori. It speaks of a time when the people were searching for a remedy. It speaks of this great chief within Waikato who would rekindle the burning fires of occupation once again. It encourages Māori to stand up in the times of oppression; that peace will return once again and that the seeds which were planted would soon flourish. The Kīngitanga is a pivotal movement which holds it's mana in the Waikato district yet connects to every rohe through whakapapa. Pōtatau was crowned the first King in 1858 and is the epitome of inspiration, breakthrough and hope.

CULTURE entered by Puaawai Meihana-Eiffe of Palmerston North [Kia Ora FM]; Lyrics & music by Puaawai, Performed & filmed by Puaawai. "My purpose for writing this song was to encourage young people to get in touch with their culture, I remember growing up feeling so lost as if something was missing my whole life, as wrote in my song “ I feel so lost and disconnected because my culture was never encouraged to me” was a perfect way to explain how not having any influence of the maori culture growing up as a teenager really affected me and how I saw myself at time where you are so desperate to find who you are. I was questioning my culture because I couldn’t speak the native language, I didn’t know the history of the maori culture and I wasn’t involved with any kapa haka groups. I wanted so much to embrace this part of me but I didn’t know where to start I thought it was too late, and this song is a result of that experience. Culture speaks universally I wanted generations from all over the world to be able relate to this song and encourage them to learn more about their culture and the history of it. Thanks for listening I hope you enjoyed it! :)"
