Official Rules for The City of Barrie’s 2022 I Love Barrie contest

HOW TO ENTER
From December 10, 2021 to February 28, 2022, the City of Barrie is accepting entries for the I Love Barrie contest. Students who attend elementary school, secondary school, or who are homeschooled in the City of Barrie can submit artwork, an essay or a photo describing why they love Barrie.

SUBMISSIONS
Contest artwork, photos and short stories can be submitted online at barrie.ca/MyBarrie. All entries must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2022.

ELIGIBILITY
This contest is open to all elementary and secondary school students who attend an English or French public or private school in the City of Barrie OR who reside in Barrie, are of school age and are home schooled.

• Kindergarten to Grade 6 students can submit a piece of artwork.
• Grade 7 and 8 students can submit a short story (up to 300 words).
• High school students (Grades 9 to 12) can submit a photo (must be a high-resolution .jpg file).
• A class (elementary or secondary school) can submit an entry (one work of art, one photo or one short story that was done collaboratively by students in a class).

Those not meeting the requirements above will not be included for prize consideration.

City of Barrie employees and members of their immediate families can participate in the contest but are not eligible to receive prizes.

CONTEST JUDGING
All artwork and essay submissions will be reviewed by a member of Council and City of Barrie staff.

PRIZES:
Odds of winning will depend on number of entries received. 

The three individual student winners will each receive the following: 

• An I Love Barrie prize pack
• Winners’ names and work shared on barrie.ca and in The Barrie Advance
• The opportunity to share their winning piece at a Barrie City Council meeting in March 2022
• A feature on the City’s flags in spring 2022

The winning class will receive the following:

• City of Barrie stickers and pens for each student in the class
• A pizza lunch delivered to the winning class (on a 2022 school day to be determined)
• Winning class name/school shared on barrie.ca and in The Barrie Advance
• A feature on the City’s flags in spring 2022

The approximate total prize value is $300. All prizes above are subject to change and/or cancellation. Prizes will be awarded by Dec. 31, 2022. Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. 

LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY
The City of Barrie is not responsible for late, lost, incomplete, irregular or misdirected contest entries or for any computer, online, telephone or technical malfunctions or human errors that may occur during the I Love Barrie contest. If for any reason, the redemption procedure is not capable of running as planned, including due to a computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention or technical failures of any sort, the City of Barrie may cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest and/or prizes. 

PRIVACY
Entry information collected by the City of Barrie for the purposes of this contest becomes the property of the City of Barrie for its sole use. Student information will not be shared for any purpose other than communication for the contest. Prize winners will have their information shared online and on social media (name, school name, grade level, artwork, photo, caption and/or short story) and may be photographed/videotaped for purposes of media coverage, City of Barrie promotions, and in The Barrie Advance (Metroland) feature which is part of the prize. 

By participating in this promotion, you acknowledge and agree that the City of Barrie may use your information in accordance with its Privacy policies.

USE OF SUBMISSIONS
By participating in this promotion, you acknowledge and agree that the City of Barrie shall have the right to use any material included as part of a contest submission for use in connection with future promotional materials by the City of Barrie on its website, in print, or otherwise.
