    • Competition entry opens Wednesday 15/5/2024 at noon and closes Friday 14/6/2024 at noon.
    • Voting for People’s Choice Award opens in the Competition Gallery on Monday 17/6/2024 at noon and closes Friday 21/6/2024 at noon.
    • All competition winners will be announced Friday 28/6/2024 at noon via the E Tū Whānau Facebook page.

    What’s important to know?

    • Entrants and competition participants must be NZ residents.
    • Songs must be original and cannot be an arrangement or adaption of any other original work.
    • Songs should be inspired by the competition theme "my whānau my future" and can be composed in any language or musical genre.
    • Songs that have been published for commercial sale are not eligible for entry.
    • An Online Entry Form must be completed including video upload of the song being performed (or photos/graphics with audio if preferred) in mp4 or mov file format (maximum file size 250MB).
    • There are two entry categories: Rangatahi [18 years & under] and Open Entry [19 years & over]. Parent/legal guardian consent is required for entrants aged under 18 years old.
    • Individuals or groups can enter the competition. Multiple entries are permitted but an online entry form must be completed for every song.
    • Entries will be judged on originality and creativity, lyrics and musical composition, but not on production quality of audio or film footage.

    Amazing prizes to be won!

    • Cash prizes or gift cards to be awarded for each entry category (Rangatahi and Open Entry), ie: 1st $2500; 2nd $1000; 3rd $500, Highly Commended $250.
    • $1500 cash prize or gift card to be awarded for the Peoples' Choice Award (most votes overall).
    • Everyone who votes for People’s Choice goes into a prize draw to win a $150 gift card.

  • Entrants

    • Entrants and competition participants must be New Zealand residents. Individuals or groups can enter the competition.
    • There are two entry categories: Rangatahi [18 years & under] and Open Entry [19 years & over]. Parent/legal guardian consent is required for entrants aged under 18 years old.
    • Entrants must be a composer or copyright owner of the song and authorised to enter the song into the competition.
    • Performers of an entry may or may not be the entrant, however, the entrant must have permission from performer/s to enter the recorded song performance into the competition.
    • Entrants shall retain ownership of their songs and videos entered into the competition but will allow E Tū Whānau and Māori Media Network free license to use all and any content entered into the competition for the promotion of E Tū Whānau in perpetuity (ie: song audio, lyrics, music, video, images etc).
    • Entrants are responsible for registering their songs with the relevant music rights organisations.
    • Employees of the Ministry of Social Development, Māori Media Network or Māori Radio are not permitted to enter the competition.

    Entries

    • Entries must comply with competition rules and all entry info must be true and correct.
    • Songs must be original and cannot be an arrangement or adaption of any other original work.
    • Songs should be inspired by the competition theme "my whānau my future" and can be composed in any language or musical genre. Translations may be requested if required.
    • Songs that have been published for commercial sale are not eligible for entry.
    • Entries will be checked by the competition within 24 hours of being received and when approved will be uploaded to the competition gallery.
    • The competition reserves the right to not approve an entry for any reason whatsoever, and to remove any entries from the competition at any time.
    • If an entry is not approved, the competition will advise the entrant as soon as possible.
    • An entry found to contain obscene or offensive lyrics or imagery may result in the entry not being approved.
    • The competition’s decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

    How To Enter

    • Entry to the competition via E Tū Whānau's website opens on Wednesday 15/5/2024 at noon and closes on Friday 14/6/2024 at noon. The competition reserves the right to extend the closing date if required.

    • Compose a song related to the theme "my whānau my future".
    • Complete an Online Entry Form including entry category, entrant details, song title and description, lyrics, names of song creators/contributors (composers, performers, etc) plus video upload of the song being performed (or photos/graphics with audio if preferred) in mp4 or mov file format (maximum file size 250MB).
    • Individuals or groups can enter the competition.
    • Multiple entries are permitted but an online entry form must be completed for every song.

    Judging

    • Entries will be judged on originality and creativity, lyrics and musical composition.
    • Entries will not be judged on production quality of audio or film footage.
    • Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

    Voting

    • Voting for the People's Choice Award (most votes overall) opens Monday 17/6/2024 at noon and closes on Friday 21/6/2024 at noon.

    Prizes

    • Cash prizes or gift cards shall be awarded for each category, ie: 1st $2500; 2nd $1000; 3rd $500, Highly Commended $250.
    • A prize of $1500 shall be awarded for Peoples' Choice Award (most votes overall), and everyone who votes for Peoples' Choice will go into a prize draw to win a $150 gift card.
    • Prize winners agree to make themselves available for media interviews and give permission for their image to be used for E Tū Whānau Song Competition publicity and promotion.
    • All competition prize winners will be announced Friday 28/6/2024 at noon via the E Tū Whānau Facebook page.
